FIFA World Cup 2026 Points Table: Updated Standings

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is well underway. This is the biggest edition in the tournament’s history, with 48 teams competing across 12 groups. The group stage runs from June 11 to June 27, 2026, with matches taking place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Here is a full breakdown of the current points table for all 12 groups, along with key results, quick facts, and how qualification works.

FIFA World Cup 2026: How the Points System Works

Each team plays three group-stage matches. A win earns 3 points, a draw earns 1 point, and a loss earns 0 points. The top two teams from each group advance to the Round of 32, along with the eight best third-place finishers across all 12 groups. That means 32 of the 48 teams move through to the knockout stage.

How the Qualification Spots Work

At the end of the group stage on June 27, 32 teams will advance to the Round of 32. Here is how it breaks down:

  • Top 2 from each group: 24 teams qualify automatically (2 teams x 12 groups).
  • Best 8 third-place teams: The eight best third-place finishers across all 12 groups also go through, ranked by points, goal difference, and goals scored.

If two or more teams finish level on points, FIFA applies the tiebreakers in this order: head-to-head points, head-to-head goal difference, and head-to-head goals scored. If teams are still tied, the criteria shift to overall group performance: goal difference, goals scored, the team conduct score based on cards, and finally the FIFA World Ranking.
